Pablo Cruz-Ayala, a Mexican-born, Utah-raised artist and immigrant advocate, explores migration’s impact on cultural identity through urban and Chicano-inspired materials. Currently, an MFA Candidate student at the University of Utah. Their work interlocks lived experiences of Utah communities and histories into remembrance of the sacrifices seen through generations. Holding deep respect for the cultural heritage of Utah and Mexican ancestors to tell the stories of love and labor. Engaging in art and community health research, Pablo redefines displacement, belonging, and adaptation narratives with poignant storytelling and community focus.

TAFY Information

The Springville Museum of Art (SMA) invites artists or artist groups to apply for the 2025-2026 Teaching Artist Fellowship for Youth (the TAFY).

This opportunity offers a  a $5,000 stipend and a $1,000 budget for supplies, framing, and exhibition preparation for a total of $6,000 to one artist or artist group.

The selected artist or artist group will have a small exhibition in the American Gallery and access to a small studio space within the Museum.

The fellowship and studio access will begin July 1, 2025 and last through June 14, 2026.

The artist will be expected to engage with SMA’s community through open studio hours, school field trips, and other outreach and public program opportunities.

The fellowship includes an exhibition co-curated by the artist with Museum staff, highlighting either the artist’s work and process or works from the Museum’s Permanent Collection. This exhibition will be on display January – May 2026.  The exhibition coincides with the Museum’s Annual Utah All-State High School Art Show and a main desired outcome of the fellowship is to give high school students access to engage with professional artists and their works and process. The selected artist or artist group will work with the Museum’s education team to design an engagement/programming plan to use during the All-State High School Art Show (Feb-Mar 2026).

More information and full proposal requirements will be posted by March 3, 2025.
