Sergei Bongart: Russian Master Painter of Light and Color

Born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1918, he immigrated to the USA in 1948 where he established an art school that he also taught at. He was best known as a colorist. Bongart worked with exaggerated color approaching his work with the idea of "color first, subject last." He is admired for his landscapes, still lifes and portraits that are richly colored and emotionally expressive. 10 September - 15 October 2010
