Journeys: Monomyth and Transformation
October 17, 2018 - January 16, 2019

The monomyth or Hero’s Journey is used to describe similarities in structure between stories and myths from various traditions, cultures and time periods. Joseph Campbell has described the Hero’s Journey as:
A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.
This exhibition will guide visitors through the stages of the Hero’s Journey as they encounter spiritual and religious works of art depicting the different phases and elements of the monomyth.
Join us for an SMA: unframed event featuring this exhibition on Wednesday, November 7, 6-8pm.
