Geometry of the Land: The Paintings of Rob Colvin
6 January - 1 February 2009
Rob Colvin has enjoyed a successful 25-year career as a freelance illustrator and artist, creating work for such prestigious clients as IBM, AT&A, Ingersoll Rand, U.S. News and World Report, and Newsweek. His works have been honored with numerous awards and recognitions from Print and Communication Arts magazines, the New York Art Directors Club, the American Society of Illustrators, and others.
Colvin was born and raised in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Utah State University. He lived in Boston for three years at the start of his freelance journey. He now makes his home and studio in Morgan, Utah where he paints his characteristic landscapes.
He describes his art as a mixing of geometric design and experimentation. "I love design," he says,"it has always been my passion and strength. I also love to experiment, [and] the combination of the two have been an endless source of joy throughout my career. My paintings are more about the geometry I see in the world. As an artist I have always tried to simplify, simplify, simplify."
