What is Art Royalty?
The Springville Museum of Art Royalty is a position of prestige, honor, and opportunity in Springville. It is a tradition that has been carried and continued for many years and is a part of Springville’s culture.
The electing of Art Royalty began in 1907 for the students at Springville High School. In the early days, the junior high and high school were combined, and the students would raise money to purchase their favorite painting or sculpture for the Museum’s Permanent Collection. A young lady was nominated from each class, and the class that raised the most money would also get to have their representative as Art Queen. The Art Queen winner would present the chosen art piece in an honorary assembly.
Today, those competing for Art Royalty are required to fill out applications asking about their school and extracurricular activities, service, involvement in arts-related activities and how they would promote the Museum as a member of the Art Royalty. The applications are submitted to the Museum and the finalists are chosen.
Please note updates that have been made to our traditional program schedule. This schedule and details are subject to change, contingent upon State, County, and CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19.
Finalists will be selected by Friday, May 15th. They will be notified via email and will receive details about their interview and art presentation* time and location. Interview and presentation panelists will select the new Art Royalty by Friday, May 29th. Selected members of the 2020-2021 Art Royalty will be invited to a brunch that will be hosted by the outgoing Art Royalty on Saturday, June 6th. In lieu of the Art Ball, the new members of Art Royalty will be crowned at a ceremony during this brunch, and are welcome to bring family as guests. These selected members will serve on Art Royalty for 12 months.

Applicants will give their presentation to a panel on Saturday, May 23rd. Because the Museum is currently closed, we have prepared a preparation guide that includes images from our permanent collection for applicants to choose from. Once you have decided on a work, please email Jordan Hansen (at firstname.lastname@example.org) the artist and title of the artwork. This information must be submitted before May 1st.
